Nepali Church Translation: Live Nepali Captions for English Sermons

Sermon Translate can show an English sermon as Nepali captions while the pastor preaches, with the 66 Bible book names written the way a Nepali Bible writes them. Nepali is a reading language in the app, so Nepali preaching cannot be captioned in English yet.

For Nepali-speaking believers in English-speaking churches

Nepali-speaking families, including Bhutanese Nepali communities, often join English-speaking churches where the parents and grandparents struggle to follow the sermon. Nepali captions in Devanagari let them read along from their seat or on their own phone.

What Sermon Translate does in Nepali

Nepali is a reading language: members can follow the sermon in Nepali captions, but the app cannot yet listen to a sermon preached in Nepali.

  • The 66 Bible book names are built in for Nepali, taken from a published Nepali Bible, so a spoken book name comes out the way that Bible writes it. Other church vocabulary is general translation guided by church context, and your church glossary fixes the terms that matter to you.
  • Verse popups cannot show the passage in Nepali yet, because the Bible editions connected today cover only English, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Farsi / Persian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German and Filipino / Tagalog.

What works today

Nepali is a caption language with built-in Bible book names taken from the Nepali New Revised Version. The app cannot listen to Nepali preaching yet, so a Nepali church preaching in Nepali cannot use it to produce English captions.

  • English preaching with Nepali captions
  • Nepali Bible book names in the captions
  • Hindi is also available, and Hindi can be preached in

First Sunday checklist

Test with the free monthly hour, send the sound desk feed to the laptop, add your pastors' names and ministries to the church glossary, and ask a Nepali reader to tell you which words need fixing.

How a church sets up Nepali captions for a service

One laptop, tablet or phone near the pulpit does the work. Give it clean sound from the sound desk or a microphone close to the preacher, sign in, choose the language being preached and Nepali as a reading language, and start. The room reads the captions on the projector through the Subtitles screen, online viewers see them in the livestream through the OBS overlay, and members who prefer their own phone scan a QR code with QR Code Join, included in every plan, and read with no account.

  • Before the service: add names, ministries and church terms to the glossary, and choose a Bible version for verse popups
  • During the service: keep the device on power and online; captions follow the preaching sentence by sentence
  • After the service: the transcript is saved to the account, and the Standard plan turns it into AI sermon notes

Can a pastor preach in Nepali with English captions?

Which Nepali Bible do the book names follow?

The Nepali New Revised Version.

What does it cost to show Nepali captions every Sunday?

Every account gets 1 free hour every month of live translation, enough to test a full service. Basic is $19.99 a month for 12 hours and Standard is $34 a month for 30 hours. Free and Basic include one reading language, Standard includes two and All Languages includes every language. Each language beyond that uses another hour of plan time for every hour of the service.

Can an English sermon be translated into Nepali live?

Yes. Choose English, or the language your pastor preaches in, as the speaker language and Nepali as the reading language. The app cannot yet listen to a sermon preached in Nepali, so this works in one direction.
