OBS Live Translation Subtitles for Your Church Livestream
The Subtitles screen in Sermon Translate gives a Copy OBS URL button. Paste it into OBS or Streamlabs as a Browser Source and translated captions appear over your livestream while the pastor preaches.
How it fits your stream
Sermon Translate runs on the laptop that hears the sermon. The Subtitles screen produces a transparent caption layer, and the Copy OBS URL button gives the address to paste into a Browser Source in OBS or Streamlabs. Position and size the source like any overlay.
- Up to 5 caption languages at once
- The preacher's own line can be shown with the translation
- Font, size, color, background, width and alignment are adjustable
Sanctuary and stream at the same time
The same captions can go on the projector for the room and into the stream for people at home. For a presenter laptop, the free Windows and Mac desktop app floats a subtitle bar over any window. The Subtitles screen is included in Standard and Pro, or a $10 a month add-on on Basic.
Give it good audio
Feed the laptop from the sound desk rather than a room microphone; clean audio is the biggest factor in caption accuracy. Sung lyrics caption poorly, so many churches hide the caption source during worship songs. Free and Basic include one reading language, Standard includes two and All Languages includes every language. Each language beyond that uses another hour of plan time for every hour of the service.
How to set it up for a service
One laptop, tablet or phone near the pulpit does the work. Give it clean sound from the sound desk or a microphone close to the preacher, sign in, choose the language being preached and the reading language or languages your members need, and start. The room reads the captions on the projector through the Subtitles screen, online viewers see them in the livestream through the OBS overlay, and members who prefer their own phone scan a QR code with QR Code Join, included in every plan, and read with no account.
- Before the service: add names, ministries and church terms to the glossary, and choose a Bible version for verse popups
- During the service: keep the device on power and online; captions follow the preaching sentence by sentence
- After the service: the transcript is saved to the account, and the Standard plan turns it into AI sermon notes
Does it work with Streamlabs as well as OBS?
Yes. Both accept the URL as a Browser Source.
Does the livestream audience need accounts?
No. They see the captions burned into the stream.
Can I test it before Sunday?
Yes. 1 free hour of live translation every month. No credit card.
What does it cost to run this every Sunday?
Every account gets 1 free hour every month of live translation, enough to test a full service. Basic is $19.99 a month for 12 hours and Standard is $34 a month for 30 hours. Free and Basic include one reading language, Standard includes two and All Languages includes every language. Each language beyond that uses another hour of plan time for every hour of the service.
